Newsletter #4 - April 2007

Yet another month has flashed past us and we are now into the 4th month of 2007, Summer is supposedly over but who can tell with some of the wonderful weather we are experiencing in the last few weeks? However this can’t last forever and colder weather is on the way, don’t fret dear socialites and we have plenty of events to keep you warm as we head into a Melbourne Winter.

Anyway onto upcoming events:

The Killing @ ACMI & Dinner Friday 30th March
Any Kubrick fans out there? Then this is the event for you The Killing is arguably to first truly great Kubrick movie. A heist film in the classic mould with great characters and more double crossing than you can shake a stick at... For more info on the movie see the IMDB: http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0049406/ Get along for movie and enjoy some dinner before hand as well!

Horse riding & Hot Springs Saturday March 31st

Fallen off the horse lately literally or not? Why not jump back on and join us in Rye for some good old fashion entertainment! If horse riding isn’t quite your thing why not just meet up with the group later at the Peninsula Natural Hot Springs in Rye? This place comes very highly recommended by the author of this newsletter and will be sure to please if you are looking for a relaxing treat!! It’s not too late for you out there in msc land to get along at the posting of this newsletter, as usual get along to the forum and take it from there!

The book group Sunday 15th of April
This is a new concept to msc, the literature thread is quite a popular thread on our forum and eventually someone put two and two together and made it into an event. The Namesake is the first book being read by all who wish to attend, for more information as always head to the forum.

New and Old Melbourne socialite BBQ Sunday 22nd of April
Hoping to grab some of the last hopefully good weather that is left before winter? Why not get along to our highly anticipated BBQ, this event is essentially being made to hopefully make it easier for all our new members to get along. A BBQ is a relaxed social environment where you can stay as long as you like and not feel pressured to stay for the whole meal/movie/coffee or so on. So to all you new members (and older ones) we cordially invite you to attend these much loved event!

MSC Wine tour Sunday 13th of May – Mothers Day
This event was very well attended last year and all who were able to get along gave glowing reviews, well all those who missed out it’s now on the cards yet again and is on Mothers Day, as a lot of our number have mothers living elsewhere we think we will still have good numbers. Also yes, with those of you with Mothers you and your mum are also welcome to this event!

Some of the ideas for upcoming events are:

Snow sports trip to Mt Buller: This event has been talked about for a long time and is much anticipated by a number of socialites, if snow sports of any kind is your idea of having a good time register your interest in this on the board as I’m sure this will go ahead no matter how good or bad the snow season is!!

Melbourne Comedy Festival: Looking for a good old laugh? Look no further! Jim Henson Company's, The PUPPET UP!-UNCENSORED 4-15th April has been the first suggested event for a socialite event, however if that is not your thing why not check out http://www.comedyfestival.com.au/season/2007/ and suggest your own event?

As always there are many more than this being suggested such as Tepanyaki dinner night, Go Karting, Apollo Bay Music Festival, paint ball, laser wars and so on. Again if you are interested please mention it on the forum and the events will evolve as interest gains momentum. If not we always try to encourage others to suggest an event that tickles their fancy so that everyone else can enjoy it too!

Thank Yous

A big thank you must go to all those who have been giving their time lately to organise events over the past few months, some of these people are Zsombor, Kitty K, Jenn, Suki, Dave, Danielle, Chris & Julia. Thank you guys! Without your continuing efforts the group would simply cease to exist!

General Business:

Something that is important to remember guys is that if you get along to an event and get to have a great time and so on, try and remember that someone has gone to the effort of organising the event for you to have such a good time at and has volunteered their time and effort to plan the event you enjoy. So a thank-you to the organiser could really make someone’s day and perhaps even encourage them to plan more events, we are all volunteers here and are all here to make friends just like you!
Even my half arsed attempts at a newsletter are only tolerated because I’m a volunteer!! :P

A big welcome must go to all of our newbies of late also, we seem to have enthused a record number to join our ranks and we can only hope this continues well into the future!

Also a very cool feature has just been added to our front page set up, to view it click here: http://melbournesocialites.com/upcoming.php. It’s basically our very own calendar that the admins can update at will, if you click on the related link it will not only take you to the forum but straight to the thread being mentioned!

Well that’s it for now and hopefully we have stirred up a bit of interest in those of you who are reading this looking for something to do, if so hit the forum at: http://melbournesocialites.com/forum/index.php
